The 2022 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) was the 33rd edition of the biennial African men’s football championship, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Cameroon hosted the 2022 AFCON, with 24 countries slugging it out to earn the continental title. Originally scheduled for June and July 2021, the tournament was postponed until January 2022.

Nigeria began their Group D campaign by beating fellow title hopefuls Egypt 1-0, thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s solitary strike in the first half.

They followed their opening game victory with 3-1 and 2-0 victories over Sudan and Guinea-Bissau, respectively. Egypt
