History of Asamoah Gyan
Asamoah Gyan was born in Accra, Ghana in 1985 and completed his secondary education at Accra Academy from 1999 to 2002. After school he signed for local club Liberty Professionals.
He is well known around the world as a striker and captain for his national team and is probably one of the most famous Ghanaian footballers of his generation.

Asamoah Gyan began his career at Liberty Professionals of the Ghana Premier League in 2003. He played just one season before leaving for Italy. In 16 games he scored 10 goals and ended the season as the league’s third highest scorer.
Seventeen years later, he returned to Ghana to play for Legon Cities. He started back in the Ghana Premier League in November 2020 but left the club in October 2021. He is currently a free agent.

Udinese
Gyan left Ghana after just one season at Liberty Professionals for Serie A club Udinese. He initially spent two seasons on loan at Modena but returned to his parent club for the 2006/07 season where he played 26 games, scoring eight times. The following season, he suffered an injury that limited his playing time. But he still managed three goals in 13 appearances.
Stade Rennes
After four years in Italy, Gyan left for Stade Rennes in France in a €8 million deal. In 53 appearances in all competitions he scored 14 times, with his second season being the highlight. In 30 games he found the net on 13 occasions. He was once again plagued by injuries though and only played three times in the 2010/11 season.
Sunderland
After a high profile summer at the 2010 World Cup with Ghana, Gyan left Rennes for Sunderland in the EPL. He soon started scoring goals, finishing with 11 in his 33 appearances, including a stoppage time equalizer against archrivals Newcastle. Although he began the next season at Sunderland he left after just three games to join Al Ain on loan.
Al Ain
Asamoah Gyan hit the ground running in the UAE and ended his first season as the league’s top scorer and helped his club to their tenth league title. He signed a permanent deal at the end of his first season and went on to play for another three in the UAE Pro League, scoring 123 goals in 123 games.
He ended his time in the country winning three league titles as well as the UAE Super Cup in 2012 and the UAE President’s Cup in 2014.
Shanghai SIPG
In 2015 Gyan left the UAE for China and signed for Super League side Shanghai SIPG. His contract instantly made him one of the highest paid footballers in the world. He ended up making 26 appearances over two seasons, scoring eight goals in the process.
Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai
Gyan returned to the UAE for the second half of the 2016/17 season, signing on loan for Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai. Once again he became the star of the show, finding the net on 11 occasions in 26 games.
Kayserispor
In the summer of 2017 Gyan signed for Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor where he scored nine goals over two seasons.
NorthEast United
In September 2019 Gyan moved again, this time to NorthEast United of the Indian Super League. Injury cut his time short in India, but he still managed to score four goals in eight Indian Super League games.
Legon Cities
Towards the end of 2020 Gyan returned to the Ghana Premier League, 17 years after playing for Liberty Professionals. He is currently a free agent after leaving Legon Cities in October 2021.
