David Abagna International Career

Wa All Stars

Abagna’s international career started in the 2016/2017 season. He moved to the Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars (now known as Legon Cities) from Zaytuna babies. This was where he won his first league title, as he was part of the squad that won the 2016 Ghanaian Premier League even though he made only 4 appearances and scored no goals.

But by the 2017/2018 season, the tide changed for Abagna as he scored 13 goals in 30 games. He was the 3rd joint top scorer in the Ghana Premier League. That same year, he scored 4 crucial goals to help his team reach the 2017 Ghana FA Cup semi-finals. However, they lost out in the semi-finals against Hearts of Oak.

Later on, the team went on to win the Ghana Super Cup beating the Beechem Stars 1-0 in the finals. His contract ended in the 2018 season after making 9 league appearances with 2 goals scored. He had a total of 15 goals in 45 appearances by the time he left the team.

Ashanti Gold

He moved to another Ghana Premier League Ashanti Gold in the 2019/2020 season. But after 11 appearances for the side, the league was suspended. However, after the league resumed, he went on to score more goals for the club, notably a brace in a League match against Aduana Stars, which Ashanti Gold won by 4-0. In a CAF Champions League match, he scored the lone goal in a return leg against Salitas FC from Burkina Faso. The game ended 2-1 and ended the CAF Champions League campaign for the team.

The team was luckier in the Ghana FA Cup as they reached the finals but lost the final game against Hearts of Oak on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw. At the end of the 3 years at Ashanti Gold, Abagna scored a total of 9 goals in 41 appearances.

Real Tamale United(RTU)

It was a homecoming for Abagna as his home town team, Real Tamale United, got him to agree to a 3-year contract after he left Ashanti Gold. This was amidst rumours that he was going to join Ashanti Kotoko. But the latter couldn’t get him to sign with them, and he went with RTU.

He seems to have found his form with his new club as he is on a scoring spree, scoring 6 goals in the first 4 games. The first goal came in a 1-1 draw with Accra Great Olympics. It was the first time in 7 years that Real Tamale United played in the Ghanaian Premier League. Then, he scored the two goals in a 3-2 defeat to his former club Legon Cities (formerly known as Wa All Stars).

The following two goals will come in the first win of the season for RTU against the West Africa Football Academy.

Finally, he scored a dramatic last gasp finisher as RTU won Brekum Chelsea on the 5th of December 2021. The season is still young, and we believe David will significantly impact the team.
