History of Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew is a famous name in the English Premier League and the Ghanian national team, but, of course, that wasn’t always the case. The Champions League quality player and one of the most popular Ghanaian footballers was born in Marseille, France, in the summer of 1991 and had dreams of playing for the French team before settling on Ghana.

Jordan comes from strong footballing stock, being the son of former Ghana team captain Abedi Pele and he is the brother of current Ghana captain Andre Ayew. Jordan grew up surrounded by football, and it didn’t take long for his natural talents to be noticed. His first recognised club was French division three side Lyon Duchere who he signed for in 2000 and spent six years at the club.

Ayew finally got his big break and began the early steps towards the Premier League when signing for the Marseille youth team in 2006 after attracting the attention of scouts. It was at Marseille he began to realise his potential and forced his way into the top team. When playing for Marseille, Ayew won multiple awards, including the Ligue 1 title.

Jordan Ayew in England

Jordan moved to England in 2015 when signing for Premier League club Aston Villa and he was employed by the Villans until 2017, scoring nine goals in 51 appearances. Those numbers weren’t quite what was expected of one of the best Ghana footballers in recent years, so he then moved to Wales to play for Swansea City. When turning out for the Swans, Jordan scored eight goals in 50 appearances.

He was then loaned out to Premier League side Crystal Palace where he scored one goal in 20 games which was enough to win him a permanent deal. Jordan is now on the books at Selhurst Park, and in his second stint at the London club, he has scored 10 in 83 games.

Despite winning his club’s player of the year award, Jordan hasn’t lifted a trophy or won a medal during his stay at Crystal Palace with the Londoners, never even making it into the Europa League. That has forced some sports news outlets in Africa to suggest he should target a move to a bigger, better, and more successful club.

Ayew is often a transfer target for other major teams in England, with the summer and winter transfer window connecting him with a move away from the Eagles. Several newspapers in the United Kingdom and football websites have published rumours linking Jordan with the likes of Everton, Leicester City, and Arsenal.

Jordan Ayew International Career

Despite being born in France, Ayew always seemed destined to play for Ghana, and that dream became a reality in September 2010. The talented attacker made his debut in a 3-0 win for the national team over Swaziland in an AFCON qualifying match. He scored his first international goal in 2014 when finding the net in a World Cup qualifying win over Lesotho. He has since played in the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.

Ayew’s stats for Ghana presently show he has played 73 times for the national team, scoring 18 goals. Long before he was a Premier League player, Ayew was scoring goals for Ghana in major competitions.
