Burkina Faso

Cameroon

The Cameroon team is one of the most decorated countries in AFCON history. Since 1984, the Indomitable Lions have won the tournament five times. 

Cape Verde

The Cape Verde team are competing at just their fourth AFCON. They hope to improve on their quarter-final finish in 2013 – their best finish to date.

DR Congo 

DR Congo won their qualification group and triumphed in four of six games. Additionally, the DR Congo team finished third in the AFCON finals in 2015. 

Egypt

With star players like Mohammed Salah, the Egypt team is generally among the AFCON favourites. Furthermore, the Pharaohs hold the most AFCON title wins in the competition’s history (7). 

Equatorial Guinea

The Equatorial Guinea team won four and lost once in their qualification group. In recent AFCONs, they have reached the quarter-finals three times. 

Gambia 

Ghanaians can expect Gambia to play in just their second AFCON finals. However, the Gambia team reached the quarter-finals in the 2021 edition. 

Ghana 

In the AFCON qualification, the Ghana team went unbeaten in their group. The Black Stars often perform well in the finals and have claimed the competition four times. 

Guinea 

In the 2023/24 AFCON, the Guinea team will play in their third consecutive finals. But their best result came in 1976 when they finished as runners-up. 

Guinea-Bissau 

Guinea-Bissau lost only once during their qualification campaign. Due to this, the Guinea-Bissau team will seek to escape from the group stages for the first time.

Ivory Coast 

As the host nation and two-time AFCON winners, the Ivory Coast team are among the favourites to win the competition.

Mali

During qualifying, the Mali team triumphed in five of six matches. The nation has also placed in the top four on six separate occasions. 

Mauritania

2023/24 will be the Mauritania team’s third-ever finals appearance. However, the team has never advanced past the group phase.

Morocco 

Although the Morocco team has only secured the AFCON once, they expect to be confident after reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2022. 

Mozambique 

The Mozambique team is competing at their first AFCON since 2010. Appearing only three times before and never advancing from their group. 

Namibia

Despite winning just one qualification game, the Namibia team will participate in their fourth AFCON during the 2023/24 edition. 

Nigeria

The Nigeria team has finished in the top three at the finals 15 times. Also, the Super Eagles secured five of their six qualifying matches. 

Senegal 

As the reigning titleholders, the Senegal team are among the AFCON favourites. The Western African nations were also runners-up in 2019. 

South Africa

Since 2000, the South Africa team has never advanced further than the quarter-final stages. Their only AFCON win came in 1996.

Tanzania

The Tanzania team will play in just their second AFCON finals and just their second since 1980. 

Tunisia

Zambia
